Rocking Babies
About three years ago Camille was told by her mother, “Go to Romania and rock babies.” She took her mother’s advice and googled Romanian orphanages. Livada appeared the most legitimate. She went with a small team the first year, and was so impressed with what they saw that they wanted to go back.
This year a 15-person team went. Here are two testimonies.
Lori – I’m glad I went. Life in Romania is not like here. The population still harbors the communist mentality, and seems to lack the compassion we have. Orphans are second-class citizens. “I wanted to bring them all home, but they won’t let you.”
Sarah – A highlight came as we were leaving. One of the boys, about 20 years old, lavished blessings on me for coming. Mentally he was about 16, not from any developmental disability, but orphans are not taught any life skills. Livada educates them. Upon graduation, they also provide a half-way house setting with a mentor to help the orphans integrate into society. “Everyone should go on a missions trip – just to see how Christian culture is different in other countries.”
